The Esporão company was founded in 1973 by José Roquette and Joaquim Bandeira. Today, we are one of Portugal’s premier wine and olive oil producers, elevating the image and recognition of the country and the Alentejo, Douro and Vinho Verde regions exporting our products to over 50 countries. We are an ambassador of Portuguese culture, developing our activities within the boundaries of sustainability and the development of meaningful long term relationships with our clients and consumers worldwide.
Herdade do Esporão lies in the heart of the Reguengos de Monsaraz
Sub-Region of the Alentejo DOC and the surrounding montado ecosystem (cork oak forests). The estate possesses extraordinary conditions for agriculture – large thermal amplitudes, poor and various soils and prodigious biodiversity that helpsus produce in harmony and balance withour environment. We only use organic growing practices in our 692 ha of vineyards, olive groves, orchards and kitchen gardens where we have 40grape varieties and 4 olive varieties.
ESPORÃO RESERVA RED 2017 - DOC ALENTEJO
The first wine made by Esporao in 1985. Obtained from grapes grown at Herdade do Esprao, it shows the consistency and rich character typical of the best Alentejo wines. Label ilustraded by Antonio Poppe
Each variety harvested separately, destemmed, crushed, temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats, concrete tanks, and small marble basins, pressed, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
12 months in American (60%) and French (40%) oak barrels. After bottling, the wine aged 8 months in the bottle.
Aroma: Notes of yellow fruit, grapefruit, and lemon, with spice notes and a light toast that accentuates the aromatic freshness.
Palate: Creamy, with structure and volume. It is balanced and filled with fruit, with a long and intense finish.
Colour: Crystalline appearance, straw color with greenish reflections.
Grapes: Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon

Soil Type: Granite/schist base, with a loam/clay structure.
