The property is comprised of a small quay in the river, which was simultaneously used as a wharf for loading the typical rabelo boats; as well as a small rustic house (cottage), fully rebuilt, which displays an inscription found in the door threshold dating from 1839. The typical and old Douro terrace walls in the property are witness to the history of the vineyard.

  • Quinta do Javali is a small wine property with 18ha dedicated to vines. It sits on the left bank of the Douro river, in the parish of Nagozelo do Douro – S. João da Pesqueira, a place with vineyard tradition since the beginning of the production of Port wine for export, in the late 17th, early 18th centuries.

    Nose dominated by fruit, essentially ripe black one. You can also unlock floral hints of crushed violet petals. There are also notes of undergrowth, with allusions to bark aromas, along with bitter chocolate.

    Aged 20 months in new and old French oak barrels.

     

    Tasting Notes:

     

    On the palate, the structure has a huge dimension, supported by good tannins, which enhance the long persistence of evidence and considerable aging capacity.

    The year of 2012

     

    The Douro grapes this year were in lovely condition, with small berries giving excellent colour and flavours and the musts looked really first-rate. Early tastings confirm considerable acidity and freshness in the samples. Not all vineyards produced great wines as the drought caused some stress to the more exposed vines and to the drier parcels, but overall this year was a remarkable example of how our Douro vines can cope with drought, as long as it is not too hot. Lower than normal temperatures for the time of year accompanied the heavy rainfall at the beginning of the year, which caused delays to the start of the new growth cycle of the vine, and all subsequent stages.
